Mobile Office Redesign

For my design capstone, I worked with Ergonomic Solutions to redesign their CarGo, a product that sets out to eliminate the barriers to working in a car. My team and I created a new design that better fits the needs of target consumers.

The current CarGo design is about 20 years old, and after benchmarking and competitive analysis we were able to understand how the product failed to connect with users and meet their needs. We focused on making the product more portable while preserving durability and ergonomics. We redefined our target users as mobile professionals and then conducted user interviews with salespeople and consultants. Our research focused on workspace ergonomics and the standardization of car interiors.

A big leap we decided to take in the design is to move the product from the back seat to the front seat. In order to justify this to our client, we conducted user interviews and did market research.

After different prototypes and user tests, we narrowed down our design direction until we settled on a design for the steering wheel. This was the most convenient and intuitive, according to our studies.

We designed and manufactured a final prototype that rests on the steering wheel and delivered it to our client. Getting experience working with a real product on the market has helped me understand how important it is for a product to connect with consumers.
